***Book: Hormone Harmony: How to Balance Insulin, Cortisol, Thyroid, Estrogen, Progesterone and Testosterone and Live Your Best Life...
Hormone Harmony addresses millions of women who are struggling with hormone imbalance, an epidemic that is disrupting countless lives during menopause and much earlier in life a widely unrecognized fact. It demystifies the subject of natural or bioidentical hormone therapy and debunks the myth that menopause is the primary trigger of midlife symptoms such as constant fatigue, lack of zest, sleep difficulties, mood swings, weight gain, loss of sex drive, forgetfulness, fuzzy thinking, and even hot flashes. In a friendly style, the book reveals the chief lifestyle triggers of hormonal havoc that are ignored in health care today; why six key hormones insulin, cortisol, thyroid, estrogen, progesterone and testosterone must be in balance; how to restore harmony by making practical lifestyle changes that cost little or nothing; and when necessary, how to get medical help. While aimed mainly at women, Hormone Harmony includes a chapter and plan for men.

***Two-Part CD: Menopause In An Hour & Menopause In An Hour-What's Up With You-Know-Who?
Get In Motion To Minimze Menopause... Being Fit in Midlife Doubles your Chances of Living Longer...
With baby boomers turning 50 every 7.5 seconds, which is 1200 per day and 4 million for each of the next ten years, more women will be experiencing the symptoms of perimenopause and menopause. The sudden mental and physical changes in the woman you thought you knew could have you scratching your head and wondering, “What’s up with you-know-who?” Dr. Tara Allmen, one of America’s most trusted authorities on menopause, has the answers. Dr. Allmen explains what middle-aged women go through and what their partners can do to help minimize the effects in the new entertaining two-part DVD series MENOPAUSE IN AN HOUR and WHAT’S UP WITH YOU-KNOW-WHO? Her top recommendation, share in regular exercise, is supported by the latest findings reported at the recent American Heart Association’s Epidemiology and Prevention Conference in San Francisco, where a physician’s longevity study revealed that being physically fit also doubles the chance of living longer. In these DVDs, Dr. Allmen educates women and their partners or spouses about the symptoms one experiences at this stage of life. Some of these including weight gain, mood disturbances, exhaustion and insomnia all respond positively to regular exercise. By controlling weight, the risks of high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes are reduced, which according to the American Heart Association’s study can increase longevity. Also on the checklist to a happier, healthier midlife are Dr. Allmen’s prescriptions to “Living a Loving Lifestyle” to improve the quality of life, including:
***Get moving: Weight-bearing exercise is a key component in preventing osteoporosis, in addition to aerobic exercise to maintain a healthy weight and reducing the risk of age-related illness... ***Eat more: Consume more whole, unprocessed foods including whole grains, healthy fats, fruits and vegetables and lean protein... ***Eat less: Cut back on processed and fried foods, sugary snacks and empty calories... ***Dive into water: By making water your thirst-quencher you can avoid the hidden calories in bottled drinks, artificial sweeteners and caffeine that could contribute to insomnia... ***Live, Love, Laugh: Studies show that a life filled with purpose, social connections and community support contributes greatly to overall health and vitality...

HOST: SHIRLEY W. MITCHELL, National Author/Writer/Columnist/Speaker
GUEST: SHARLENE MACLAREN, Best-Selling Author & Speaker
TOPIC: FICTION FOR THE SOUL
EPISODE DESCRIPTION: This week Host Shirley W. Mitchell will be joined by her "Guest" Sharlene MacLaren, Best-Selling Author & Speaker and Author of "Abbie Ann" - the last book in her "Daughters of Jacob Kane Series" as they discuss "Fiction for the Soul" with... Transformation of Women, Abbie Ann and The Victorian Era.
GUEST: Born and raised in West Michigan, Sharlene MacLaren attended Spring Arbor University. Upon graduating with an education degree, she traveled internationally for a year with a small singing ensemble, then came home and married one of her childhood friends. Together they raised two lovely, wonderful daughters, both of whom are happily married and enjoying their own families. Retired in 2003 from 31 years of teaching, Sharlene loves to read, sing in the church choir and worship team, travel, and spend time with her family, in particular, her wonderful, adorable grandchildren, Dylan, Alexis, and Gavin. A Christian for forty+ years, and a lover of the English language, Sharlene has always enjoyed dabbling in writing - poetry, fiction, various essays, and freelancing for periodicals and newspapers. Her favored genre, however, has always been romance. She remembers well the short stories she wrote in high school and watching them circulate from girl to girl during government and civics classes. “Psst,” someone would whisper from two rows over, and always with the teacher’s back to the class, “Pass me the next page”. Sharlene MacLaren is an occasional speaker for her local MOPS organization; is involved in "Kids’ Hope USA" - a mentoring program for at-risk children; counsels young women in the Apples of Gold program, and is active in two weekly Bible studies. She and her husband, Cecil, live in Spring Lake, Michigan with their lovable collie, Dakota, and Mocha, their lazy, fat cat.

***Book: Abbie Ann...
Set in western Michigan during the early 1900’s, the Kane sisters grow up in an era of change with Americans moving from family farms to factories and traditional societal roles for women rapidly transforming. Abbie Ann, the youngest of Jacob Kane’s three daughters, works at the family’s general store and teaches Sunday school, not unusual for the day and age. But she also works diligently with the local chapter of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union on two divisive issues: pushing hard for women’s voting rights and working to ban the sale and use of alcohol, controversial enough as to warrant life threats. Abbie Ann also wrestles with a challenging matter of the heart, her attraction to a divorced father who does not share her Christian faith. Getting involved with him would not be proper, even as the Victorian era gives way to modern times. MacLaren creatively weaves coming-of-age and spiritual themes into her historic tale, as Abbie Ann searches for purpose and learns to trust God.
